Last Thursday evening, Shoreditch played host to the launch of the first ever Amnesty International shopping emporium at the Boxpark shipping-container-department-store on Bethnal Green Road – located next to Shoreditch High Street station.
Amnesty’s new concept story stock’s ethically sourced gifts, clothing and designer homewares. All profits from the store will go directly to Amnesty Internationals Human Rights work, and best of all the shop is full of fantastic looking selection of unqiue products and the store was designed by us… as you may already know. See blog posts below for more info on the shop build.
During the launch evening the talented British contemporary painter Stuart Semple was hosting a live-letter-art writing event in aid of the Amnesty ‘Write for Rights’ campaign. This campaign will have thousands of people all over Britain writing hand written letters on behalf of 10 Amnesty cases. One such case is for Woman’s Rights in Zimbabwe which you can find out more about at Women of Zimbabwe Arise – Zimbabwe.
The Amnesty Boxpark shop will be working in collaboration with local designers, artists and London College of Fashion who will be providing limited edition ranges – It’s great to see organisations getting involved with local talent, that is the future! The store will also be hosting a range of events and workshops which you can keep up to date with at Amnesty Boxpark | Facebook

RVCA X The Shop Next Door POP UP STORE: opening night wrap up from RVCA Australia on Vimeo.
Location: The Old Truman Brewery, The Loading Bay, Brick Lane, LONDON
Date: 4th-8th November 2011 (ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT)
Prepare for high (heeled) art at Shoes for Show. To those for whom shoes are just an intermediary between your foot and the ground, this free exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery will offer little in the way of cultural insight. But for anyone with even a glancing pedal interest, ‘Javari Presents The Sculptural Art of High Heels’ is well worth dipping a toe into. Curated by Shonagh Marshall, who has archived the collections of Christian Louboutin and Isabella Blow, it features stunning photography and many iconic shoes – including the Vivienne Westwood numbers that famously floored Naomi on the catwalk in 1993.

The Heart of the Great Alone: Scott, Shackleton & Antarctic Photography
21 October 2011 – 15 April 2012
This exhibition of remarkable Antarctic photography by George Herbert Ponting and Frank Hurley marks the 100th anniversary of Captain Scott’s ill-fated journey to the South Pole.
Ponting’s dramatic images record Scott’s Terra Nova expedition of 1910–12, which led to the tragic death of five of the team on their return from the South Pole. Both collections of photographs were presented to King George V and are today part of the Royal Photograph Collection.
We love inspirational photography here at Pop Store as it often aids us in our journey to all things creative.

Location: Selfridges, London
Date: Open until 25th October 2011
For its latest exhibition The Museum of Everything has taken over Selfridges. We get some art and retail therapy.
While mid-morning Selfridges shoppers browse the Vivienne Westwood collection on the women’s fashion floor, away from public view in a room a few metres away, a lively artists’s workshop is in full swing.
The sprawling show is currently colonising Selfridges storefront windows and Ultralounge space with a vibrant display of more than 200 drawings, paintings and sculptures by artists from progressive studios around the world.

To generate funds for future projects – all exhibitions to date have been free – its own in-store outlet ‘The Shop of Everything’ is stocking branded goods including books, badges and tea towels, limted-edition artists’s prints and a fashion collection designed by Clements Ribeiro. It has made a big splash with its signage too. To find the exhibition just follow the arrows and the cardboard signs stuck on sink plungers placed on counters all round the store.
‘The Museum of Everything Exhibition #4’ and the accompanying workshops continue at Selfridges until Oct 25. Information on Action Space workshops and events can be found at actionspace.org … The best part… It’s FREE!!
