Music – Cambridge Folk Festival – Megan Henwood

Our friend Megan Henwood has been touring the festival circuit all Summer long. The talented muzo has been gracing the stages of Oxfordshire for years, and we’ve watched her grow. Henwood, the winner of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award two years ago at the tender age of 20, has a stupidly modest character and we genuinely believe she has no idea just how gifted she really is. She possesses vocals reminiscent to Carol King and Sandy Denny with lyrics that articulate words of a wise old owl.  Her writing focuses on broader subject matter than your average female ‘try-hard’. This girl is one to watch, she will be winning awards for many years to come, so you’ll become quite familiar with this girl. See her perform at the Cambridge Folk Festival on The Den Emerging Talent Stage, this Saturday 30th July 2011 (tomorrow). If any of you Pop Store readers attend the fest, please let us know how it went. Muchos Thankos! x

A Summer Look Book – Lauren Moshi- 2011

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90WcBgLM3ZM&feature=player_embedded#at=71] We are loving some of the new silhouettes she introduced this season such as the Harlow oversize cape tee and the Barbie crop tee. We also have a bit of a crush on the Lacy bell pant and Lisa color fringe tote bags. These pieces embrace all aspect of the nouveau bohemian with a touch more of daring sophistication than the ’70s flowing predecessor looks. Take note of the feather hair extensions, they are destined to be massive this Autumn!!

Pop Up Shop – New York – Umbro New York Cosmos BLACKOUT

Location: Reed Annex, 151 Orchard Street, New York Date: OPEN until July 27 We are quite taken by the interior of this Pop Up, its gritty shell really creates an underground atmosphere. Designed by Kevin Lyons, the multi-faceted creative put together a special tribute for the events that transpired back in 1977 and marked the start of Carlos Alberto and the Cosmos’ dominant run in the NASL.

Product Development – Common Sons – Pop Store Commercial

The last 20 years has seen the decimation of the clothing manufacturing base in the UK. Business’ have deserted these shores to get cheap labour elsewhere and have said the industry is dead on its feet in Great Britain. Here at Pop Store we thought BALLS to that (we aren’t the gloomy sort)… so to prove that great quality, affordable clothing can be made in these fair isles, we are currently working on a project developing a mens knitwear brand made exclusively in Great Britain, Common Sons. Here’s a sneak peek at one of our samples. First stop is Selfridges for an exclusive period at the start of October, then we march into ASOS a couple of weeks later. More pictures soon along with sneak peaks of the Summer 12 range.

Window Design – Christian Louboutin – Catterpillar

Christian Louboutin launches its latest dynamic window exhibit in the London Flagship store, located on Mount Street in the heart of Mayfair. The wonderful designers ‘Studio XAG’ were briefed by Christian Louboutin to create a summer garden featuring a giant catterpillar. We just love the results below, we recommend you go down and see it in the ‘flesh’ at the London Mount St boutique. The above creation is a light-hearted tableau, featuring a stylised summer garden against the backdrop of a perfect azure sky and cotton wool clouds. With the central installation, the Caterpillar ‘just hanging out’ with myriad legs that have been replaced with those of a shapely woman. This magic display put a smile on our faces at Pop Store HQ, we love to see designers thinking beyond constraints. Thoughts are welcome…
